Alvington Allotment Group
Alvington Allotments
The Allotments are progressing really well. In March this year we were given permission to extend the lots in effect adding a further 70% of usable ground to the growing area. An ongoing problem for us has been the disposal of all the rubble and scrap paraphernalia that was uncovered. Last week we had the use of a team of community project men under the umbrella of the Gloucester probationary service. Our allotment group supplied a skip (which proved not to be large enough) and the group of 8 young men plus a supervisor filled the skip within 1 1/2 hours. They are returning on Sunday 17th July to complete the clearance. I have to say that this Community help was instigated and set up by Rachel Imm (from Two Rivers Housing) after a conversation I had with her, Dan Wilce, our Community Support Officer and Damien our Street Warden during a recent Walk and talk through the Village on 8th June. Is there any business who would be prepared to pay for the second skip £85? The produce grown has been a revelation with quality and quantity exceeding all our expectations. There is currently a waiting list of one and I hope to find a plot this year for that one.

If anyone would like to put there name down for an allotment should one become available, please contact me on 528420
